Credit: Andrew Cebulka About a year after announcing its plans to open on Johns Island, the team behind Minero, a Mexican eatery that used to be located downtown, announced they plan to open in late spring of 2022.
The restaurant will be led by James Beard Award-nominated Chef Shamil Velazquez (also of the restaurant group’s Delaney Oyster House), who The Neighborhood Dining Group says will “use his experience and knowledge of Latin American flavors to honor Mexico’s culinary traditions, while weaving in inspiration from the culinary South.” The menu will feature Minero staples, including tacos, the Minero burrito, wings, and margaritas, alongside expanded food and beverage offerings—including traditional options, like nachos and fajitas, as well as seafood preparations and charcoal-grilled meats and vegetables.
The restaurant space has been completely renovated to feature an indoor-outdoor bar, expansive, year-round outdoor dining areas, and a family-friendly atmosphere.
Minero will be located at 3140 Maybank Hwy., the former home of Fat Hen.
