Hawaiian vibes, skating action and a lot of fun are coming to SK8 Charleston! The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission’s SK8 Charleston skate park will host its Hawaiian Luau and Bowl Jam on Saturday, May 18th from 6 pm to 9 pm (Note - event times and the contest schedule have recently changed).
The event is open for skateboarders wishing to participate, as well as spectators and those wanting to enjoy the festivities. Event-goers will witness some of the best skaters in the area compete on the bowls of this premier skate park. Other festivities will include live music, delicious food from Seol Ah’s Food Truck, and the aloha spirit.
The competition will be judged by a variety of skateboarders from the Charleston community, with great prizes and giveaways. Hawaiian-inspired clothing is encouraged.
Registration will be available on site the day of the event. Gates and registration open at 10 a.m., with contests running from 6 - 9 p.m. See a full schedule below.
Contest Schedule (updated 4/30):
- 6 p.m.: Beginner Green Bowl Jam
- 6:30 p.m.: Intermediate Green Bowl Jam
- 8 p.m.: Advanced Yellow Bowl Jam
- 8:30 p.m.: Best Trick Yellow Bowl Jam
For skateboarders wishing to participate, entry fees are $3 per skater and include admission to the park. Spectators will be free of charge. Annual Skate Pass holders receive free admission and entry fees to the event.
Owned and operated by the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission, SK8 Charleston is a regional-sized concrete skate park that spans over 32,000 square feet. The park, which opened in 2017, is located on the neck area of the Charleston peninsula at 1549 Oceanic Street. SK8 Charleston features an intermediate bowl, a pro bowl, a 200-foot-long snake run, and a 300-foot-long street course. The site features a small skate shop, restrooms, concessions and seating areas. SK8 Charleston is open each Wednesday through Monday for skateboarding, and on Tuesdays for BMX bikers. Accessible parking, restrooms and an accessible route to viewing locations are available at the park. SK8 Charleston also offers Beginner and Intermediate skateboarding lessons.
