The next big road race event is set for this Saturday on Folly Beach. The Run for the Coast 10K Eco-Run will start at 8 am near the Tides Hotel on 1 Center Street. The event will benefit the Charleston Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation.
The entire race takes place on the beach during low tide so there will be plenty of space for all runners.
You can register for the Run for the Coast HERE. Online registration ends today (September 19) and is $40. Children 12 and under are $15. If you miss the online deadline you can still register in-person during packet pickup on Friday (5 – 8 pm) or Saturday (6:30 to 7:45 am).
You may be wondering why it is called an Eco-Run. Well, that’s because the race’s organizers are committed to protecting the environment. According to the official website “there will be on-site recycling and composting; race registration is online or in-person only; race materials will be biodegradable, recyclable, or organic; and no plastic bottles will be used. Racers are encouraged to bring their own water bottles and to carpool or bike to the event.”
The event is sill looking for volunteers so if you’re interested, contact race founder Jeremy Wasko at RunForTheCoast10K@gmail.com.
