ESPN Events today revealed the bracket for the 2023 Shriners Children's Charleston Classic, to be played on November 16th, 17th, and 19th at TD Arena in downtown Charleston.
Seven of the eight teams in the field are coming off winning records in the 2022-23 season, including Houston, which finished with one of its best seasons in school history (31-3) and advanced to the Sweet 16 as the #1 seed in the 2023 NCAA Men’s Tournament. They will open play in Charleston against Towson from the CAA, which finished 21-12 a year ago.
Another exciting team to watch will be St. John's, ranked No. 25 in ESPN's “Way Too Early” Top 25. The Red Storm have a revamped roster under Hall of Famer and new head coach Rick Pitino. Their opening game in Charleston will be against 2023 National Invitation Tournament champion North Texas, which finished last season with an impressive 31-7 record.
Dayton, coming off a 22-12 season. is returning to Charleston for the first time since 2017. The Flyers will play LSU of the SEC in the tournament's opening game. In the final matchup of Day 1, Wake Forest, representing the ACC, takes on Utah from the Pac-12.
The bracket-format tournament features 12 games over three days. The teams compete once per day, regardless of results. The two unbeaten teams will face off in a championship game on Sunday, November 19th on ESPN.
