The Peninsula Golf Club is set to become downtown Charleston’s first indoor golf and social club. Envisioned by Charleston native Joe Miller V, the Peninsula Golf Club will be a golf-centric destination that offers the social benefits of a traditional club.
“We are building Peninsula Golf Club with the goal of creating a more modern and approachable golf experience while functioning as a member’s private country club, unlike anything currently offered in the Lowcountry,” said Joe Miller. “When I moved back to Charleston a little over two years ago, it quickly became apparent to me that the golf and private club options were both outdated and largely inaccessible. Charleston grew by more than 20% over the last decade with nearly 30 new residents per day, yet the golfing scene and private club offerings look almost exactly as they did before the turn of the millennia. My generation and those who did not get the chance to join a club two decades ago have been left behind with no private golf club options. Peninsula Golf Club will solve those challenges and create opportunities for those seeking an exclusive golfing and gathering space in addition to offering something no other private club can—the opportunity to play year-round, rain or shine, even after the sun goes down. This accessibility makes the club an extra option for those that already do have a local membership elsewhere. It really will cater to all golfers.”
The Peninsula Golf Club will offer Trackman simulator technology that will allow members to play a full round in less than an hour and provides access to more than 170 golf courses virtually. Benefits such as golf tournaments, lessons from a pro, club fittings, and club storage and shipping will also be available.
“Our goal is to provide a best-in-class golfing experience in the heart of Charleston, particularly to those who are not able to access the traditional private clubs, whether due to the expense or the infinitely long waitlists, and those who do not want to commute long distances to the public courses and play a six-hour round,” said Miller. “With the explosive growth in Charleston, an accessible private golf club is needed.”
Peninsula Golf Club will also be a gathering place for members to entertain, socialize, and relax in bar, restaurant, and lounge areas designed by David Thompson Studio. Additionally, members can utilize fitness rooms and locker rooms with showers, steam rooms, and saunas.
Peninsula Golf Club will collaborate with Chef Michael Toscano, the founder and executive chef of Le Farfalle and Da Toscano Porchetta Shop, to create a menu and cocktail list consisting of clubhouse staples and more.
“The food and beverage we’re planning for Peninsula Golf Club will be one of the many things that sets it apart from other experiences around town," Toscano said. "I’m honored to curate a top-notch culinary experience outside of a typical restaurant and be part of a concept that is completely new to Charleston."
Peninsula Golf Club is now allowing potential members to reserve their chance to apply to become a founding member with tiers that will cater to all age ranges covering multiple levels of use. Golfers interested in this opportunity are invited to visit peninsula-gc.com to complete the contact form and provide a deposit.
