Karen Svoboda, National Director of Defense of Democracy, and Allan Morris, SC Chapter Chair, invite the community to participate in a protest against Moms For Liberty (M4L) on May 1st at 5:15 pm in Mt Pleasant. They say the protest is against M4L's "takeover over of public schools and local government."
Interested parties can meet at Alhambra Hall (131 Middle St) from 5 pm to 7:30 pm. The protest is taking place outside of M4L's annual fundraiser.
Defense of Democracy (D of D), a national nonpartisan organization, released the following statement about the protest:
"We reject M4L’s 'anti-woke' ideology, and their push to ban books and marginalize the LGBTQ community. Having the Lt. Gov of South Carolina (Pamela Evette) as their featured speaker shows they are far from the grassroots Moms organization they claim to be. They are a well-funded political movement to destabilize the public education system, and D of D will bring awareness to the public."
