Charleston Mayoral Candidate William Cogswell today released the following statement regarding the decision to delay Union Pier's redevelopment plan for another year:
“Union Pier has been under discussion for almost a year, and to date, we’ve heard very little from the Mayor of Charleston. He has been in the backseat while Lowe and the Ports Authority drive the conversation.
I am glad he's endorsed my proposal to put residents first and have their concerns at the forefront of the conversation. This project has been mishandled from the get-go, so it's great to see that the next Mayor will have an opportunity to assume a leadership role on Union Pier. I am running because I have the ability to lead from the front, get this project done in a way that benefits the city, and will be proactive instead of reactive.”
