The Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections (BVRE) is launching a new initiative for 2024: the Voter Ambassador program. This initiative aims to increase voter education and registration in the county by recruiting volunteers who can host voter drives and spread the word about the importance of voting.
As Voter Ambassadors, participants will receive training and a supply kit from BVRE and will work with full time staff to find the best ways to reach out to potential voters. Volunteers will also ensure that eligible residents have an opportunity to register and are aware of upcoming elections. This is a nonpartisan program that welcomes anyone who wants to improve the community by helping others exercise their right to vote.
"We are very excited to launch the Voter Ambassador program, which is a new way for us to connect with our community and empower more people to vote," said BVRE Executive Director Isaac Cramer. "We believe that voting is not only a right, but a responsibility, and we want to help everyone in Charleston County exercise their voice in our elections. By becoming a Voter Ambassador, you can make a positive impact on your neighborhood, your county, and your country. You can also learn more about the election process and the services we offer at BVRE. We invite anyone who is interested in joining this program to register for our first training session and volunteer."
The first training session will take place on Wednesday, March 13th from 6 pm to 8 pm at BVRE’s headquarters, located at 4340 Corporate Road in North Charleston. You can register online in advance.
If community members have any questions, they can contact Haley Oryell, BVRE’s community engagement coordinator, at 843-202-6542 or horyell@charlestoncounty.org.
The Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections is responsible for conducting all municipal, state, and federal elections that are held in Charleston County. BVRE also conducts outreach events with community members that encourage election education and participation.
