Readers may recall reading a recent report in the Post & Courier about the overwhelming support Mt. Pleasant's Village Bookseller received from the community after the business said they needed financial help. Now, there is a local independent bookstore with a similair urgent need.
The Turning Page Bookshop on Saint James Avenue in Goose Creek says they are struggling to stay afloat and have requested assistance from supporters through a GoFundMe campaign. Store owner, VaLinda Miller, says the woman-owned, minority-owned, and only Black-owned bookstore in the state of South Carolina, may be closing its doors in a week.
Miller says her shop is raising funds to pay back rent, purchase new carpet, and acquire 5 bookcases, 1,000 books to give out for free to children, and a bookmobile. If you can help Turning Page Bookshop, visit their GoFundMe page.
