This weekend, Pro Performance Athletics, a sports academy and training facility located in Mount Pleasant, will host the second annual Step Up to the Plate co-ed softball and baseball charity tournament. The event will benefit both the Wounded Warrior Project and the Clint Seymour Play Ball Fund.
All proceeds given to the Wounded Warrior Project will benefit the family of United States Marine Corps Sgt. Mark Johnson, a Goose Creek native and Stratford High School alumnus killed earlier this year in a helicopter accident in Nepal.
The charity weekend begins on Friday with the Opening Pitch Banquet at the Dunes West Clubhouse. The event’s featured guest speaker will be U.S. Army Captain Vincent Cerchione from the Pentagon. Tickets are $150 per couple, or $80 per person. Discounts are available for PPA clients.
The softball tournament will be held on Saturday and Sunday at the Jones Center in Mount Pleasant. A travel baseball tournament will also take place that at Gahagan Park in Summerville. Entry fees are $400 for softball teams. The registration deadline is Aug. 20.
