After a fire during the night of July 4th, 2021, The Bearded Ax (The Ax Hole LLC) is finally rebuilt and ready to open. While it still features 12 ax targets, they have improved the whole facility. All of the ax games are projected onto the targets so they have many new games to play like Connect 4, tile matching, Wheel of Fortune, Duck Hunter, and several more.
In addition to ax throwing, they have free video and board games to play. There is also a giant ring toss game and two skee-ball machines beg to be played.
“The improvement I’m most proud of has got to be the retro video game stations that we built into the bars top, and covered with 1/2’ tempered glass," owner Ian Smith said. "It was my GM, John Hammond’s idea to have thousands of games to play for free while you sit at the bar. Together we made it a reality and it’s something I’ve never seen before. To my knowledge nothing like it exists in the Lowcountry.”
The Bearded Ax is kid/family friendly and ADA friendly as well. Dogs are welcome too.
Customers are welcome and encouraged to bring outside food from a neighboring restaurant as the venue has no kitchen. The business also has a drink menu featuring a NA selection, mead, coconut water seltzer, D9/hemp based drinks, and more.
They are currently open as follows, with the grand opening to take place on Saturday, April 20th from 3 pm to 11 pm:
- Wednesday from 4 pm to 9 pm
- Thursday from 12 pm to 9 pm
- Friday and Saturday from 12 pm to 11 pm
- Sunday from 12 pm to 9 pm
“While the city won’t let us use the LLC name as our doing business as name, we still self identify as The Ax Hole," the owners said. "If nothing else, swing by and give us your best pun!”
