The Holy City is about to find out what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real – and no, that’s not because Southern Charm is set to air this fall.
Rumors are flying about The Real World potentially choosing Charleston as the backdrop for its 29th season. It seems executives from MTV have been in town scoping out the locale, looking at homes, and speaking with business owners.
One of my Twitter followers, @ddmcbain, told me Y102.5 was reporting yesterday that executives were looking for a house on the Battery for the new cast to live in. The radio station also said MTV was looking at bars the cast could frequent while they were in Charleston.
Real World rumors emerged late last month when FITSNews reported they had spoken to someone working with the network on bringing the show to the Holy City. With local media now hearing the same, it appears this rumor is about to become a reality.
The news isn’t exactly surprising considering the rash of television shows – reality or otherwise – invading the area. The ever-growing list includes the aforementioned Southern Charm, Welcome to Myrtle Manor, Gimme Shelter, Food Court Wars, Reckless, an untitled Coyote Ugly-like reality show, and The Dirty South (currently filming in Murrells Inlet).
For those interested, MTV is currently casting for the show’s 29th season.
