This evening at the 2024 Teachers of the Year Gala, Dorchester School District Two honored their 2024 Teachers of the Year, Honor Rookie Teachers of the Year, Honor Teachers of the Year, and announced the District Teacher of the Year at the Summers Corner Performing Arts Center.
These DDTwo teachers were treated to an elegant evening held in their honor to celebrate their success as the district’s top educators. The gala is designed to express the district’s deep appreciation for their expertise in shaping the lives and educational journeys of DDTwo students. Teachers were surrounded by their family and friends as they enjoyed a gourmet dinner before the recognition ceremony.
From the district, each Teacher of the Year received a recognition plaque for their classroom, a framed photo of their class, and a monetary gift. The Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce presented each teacher with certificates from the House and Senate as well as from the Chamber and a framed piece of art.
Sarah Nesbit from Summerville High School was named the 2024 District Teacher of the Year with colleagues, friends, family, and the community in attendance. In the final interview, Ms. Nesbit received the highest ratings from a selection committee, comprised of a retired teacher and two community members, to become the District Teacher of the Year.
Sarah Nesbit said, “It is incredibly humbling to be named DDTwo’s District Teacher of the Year. I am thankful to be a part of this amazing district for 11 years.”
The Dorchester Two Educational Foundation presented Ms. Nesbit with a trip for two to a destination of her choice. Her options include all expenses paid travel and stays in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Las Vegas, or Wyoming. As the fifth lowest funded district in the state, the foundation is instrumental in funding important initiatives that directly support the teachers and students of DDTwo. This trip will be an incredible experience for Ms. Nesbit that will create memories that will last a lifetime.
In addition, thanks to the support of DDTwo’s amazing community partners, Ms. Nesbit also received a beautiful arrangement of roses donated by The Blossom Shop as well as a basket full of generous gifts from Crumbl Cookies, Dorchester Two Educational Foundation, Fancy Trimmins, Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce, Halls Chophouse, Hood Construction, Millie Lewis Models and Talent, Paige's Okra Grill, Robinson & Robinson Insurance Company, Summerville Orchestra, The Winchester Spa and Salon, Nico Romo Hospitality Group, and Simple Treasures.
Ms. Nesbit will represent Dorchester School District Two in the South Carolina Teacher of the Year program in 2025 and as the DDTwo Teacher Council leader for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.
Superintendent Dr. Robbins said, “In a district that employs over 1800 teachers, it is quite an honor to be named the Dorchester School District Two Teacher of the Year. It is shining stars like Sarah Nesbit who make Team Dorchester a special place. I commend you for your dedication to your students and passion you bring to the classroom every day.”
