The Dorchester County Adult Education program in Dorchester School District Two received recognition from South Carolina Association for Adult and Continuing Education (SCAACE) for excellence overall and for an individual professional.
Dorchester County Adult Education earned the Workplace Literacy Award and English as a Second Language (ESL) Performance Award. The Workplace Literacy Award is presented to programs with students enrolled in a Workplace Literacy program who made measurable skills gains while participating in the program. The English as a Second Language Performance Award is presented to the top five programs with the highest enrollment and program completion.
“Dorchester County Adult Education is honored to accept these awards on behalf of the students we serve,” said Director Wramie Spafford. “Our teachers and staff are dedicated to serving our community and assisting our students in their workforce journey. We pride ourselves on serving our ESL students at the highest level so that they may seek employment and the benefits of our educational program.”
SCAACE also chose Dorchester County Adult Education’s Tonya Hall as the College & Career Navigator of the Year. Ms. Hall received this distinction for her dedicating herself long-term to Adult Education, making a difference for adult learners, advancing the profession, committing to growth through professional development, demonstrating innovation and creativity in improving program processes for Career Pathways, communicating effectively with colleagues and students, and engaging in school and community activities.
Ms. Hall said she is “very honored to have been chosen as the State College and Career Navigator. Collaborating with the students at Adult Education allows me to provide Career Development Services and Workforce Preparation Activities to ensure success in their future endeavors. I share this award with all of the Dorchester Adult Education staff because it takes a team effort to meet the needs of our students. When one of us wins or is recognized it is a team victory.”
SCAACE advocates for Adult Education issues and concerns, both state and nationwide, through a co-membership in the Commission on Adult Basic Education.
