Wayne Pacelle, president of Animal Wellness Action and the Center for a Humane Economy, issued this statement today in the wake of news concerning a dogfighting bust in South Carolina:
"Dogfighting remains an epidemic in our nation, and we applaud the Richland County Sheriff’s Office has taken by breaking up a fight in progress and immediately getting the dogs veterinary treatment.
Dogfighting is always bound up with other crimes, and that’s why we were not surprised to see an enormous amount of cash for illegal wagering and a cache of firearms. We hope this incident causes South Carolina’s federal delegation to swing behind the FIGHT Act to allow for an even more robust crackdown on this barbarism."
