Lowcountry Food Bank (LCFB) announced today it has received a $25,000 grant from its longstanding partner, Bank of America. The latest funding will provide for operating support to deliver on LCFB's mission to unite the Lowcountry community in pursuit of equitable, dignified, and consistent access to food.
The impact of the bank’s support is significant. For every dollar donated, Lowcountry Food Bank can help provide up to five meals for someone in the community who experiences hunger. The bank’s financial contributions will help create 125,000 meals for individuals and families throughout the Lowcountry this year.
Of the more than 184,000 individuals that face food insecurity every day in the 10 coastal counties LCFB serves, 50,000 of those are children, which represents more than 16% of the population in this geographic area.
This timely funding from Bank of America ensures that children who receive free breakfasts, lunches and snacks during the school year will still have access to these meals over summer break and safeguards Lowcountry children from having to worry about where their next meal will come from while school is not in session. Lowcountry Food Bank prepares summer meals in its Zucker Family Production kitchen in Charleston, which ensures children have access to nutritious food, including fresh produce.
"The high price of food and other essential items has affected the Lowcountry Food Bank’s food-insecure neighbors who were already facing challenges,” said Nick Osborne, Lowcountry Food Bank President and CEO. “You should not have to make a choice whether you eat today, or your children eat. Access to food is a basic human right."

Bank of America has supported Lowcountry Food Bank for 14 years, totaling more than $300,000 in grants. These contributions are part of the bank’s longstanding efforts to address hunger relief and support the health and safety of its employees and community. As a result of these efforts, Bank of America has committed $18 million to local hunger-relief organizations across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
