Five Loaves Cafe on Friday announced that they were closing their downtown location after 18 years serving the Cannonborough neighborhood. The restaurant’s locations in Mt. Pleasant and Summerville will remain open, and they did leave open the possibility that they could return to the peninsula in the future.
The following message was posted on the restaurant’s social media pages:
“For 18 years in the Cannonborough neighborhood we've served countless bowls of soup, employed hundreds, and warmed the bellies of thousands of guests. However, it's time for us to lock up the doors of our Cannon St location for the last time. Our lease is up and it's time to move on from this space.
We are eternally grateful to our staff (many of whom became like family) and our guests (many of whom became friends). Thank you to the employees that worked this little restaurant like it was your own and happily served the community with warmth and kindness. It was your hard work that made this company what it is.
To our amazing customers, whether you dined with us once or were a regular who we saw multiple times a week (we wish we could thank you each by name but that list would be long) we can't thank you enough for your support. We owe you everything.
It has been an absolute pleasure working with and serving you Charleston!
Don't worry we'll be slinging soup at our Mt. Pleasant and Summerville locations for the long haul. Come see us there! (And who knows maybe you'll see us again downtown sometime soon.”
The downtown Five Loaves Cafe was located at 43 Cannon Street.
