Unplug, explore, and grow this summer with Camp CCPL. Beginning May 15, the Charleston County Public Library (CCPL) and the Charleston County School District (CCSD) are teaming up once again for its annual Summer Reading program. Presented by the South Carolina Stingrays, this year’s theme of Camp CCPL harkens back to the summer camps of our youth, where every day was an adventure waiting to be discovered. Sign up today for a chance to win great prizes just by reading!
Registration for Summer Reading is NOW OPEN. The programs for children, teens and adults run from May 15 through July 31 and feature an exciting lineup of free events and programs, as well as fun prizes (while supplies last) provided by our generous community sponsors.
"We cherish our partnership with CCSD in fostering educational success,” said CCPL Executive Director Angela Craig. “Summer Reading isn't just about preventing the summer slide; it's about igniting a passion for literacy that lasts a lifetime. This year's program is a reminder of the pure joy and wonder found within the pages of a book."
The “Summer Slide” refers to the learning loss that happens when children do not engage in educational activities during the summer months. Summer Reading programs like CCPL’s encourage people of all ages to use the summer months not just as a break, but as an opportunity to learn and grow through reading, activities, events, and more. CCPL and CCSD are now in the seventh year of their partnership to bridge this literacy gap for students during the summer months.
"CCPL’s Summer Reading program has become a staple for our students during their time off," said CCSD's Superintendent of Schools Anita Huggins. "We value their commitment to making books and additional literacy resources available, and look forward to another summer break where all students can continue, build, or start on their love of reading."
