On Friday, May 17th, the American Lung Association in South Carolina will host "Lowcountry Dancing with the Stars" Oxygen Ball, the organization's annual gala with a twist. In addition to live dance performances, the event will feature formal dinner, live and silent auctions, and special guest performances. The Oxygen Ball will be hosted at the Charleston Gaillard Center and funds raised support the Lung Association’s efforts to end lung cancer and lung disease through local programs, advocacy efforts and groundbreaking research.
This year’s theme is “License to Breathe!.” Attendees will be transported into the world of international intrigue, sophistication and glamour. Black tie optional. Drinks shaken, not stirred.
The five dancers have been diligently working with the professionals from the International Ballroom Dance Studios to prepare original routines to delight guests. This year’s lineup includes:
- Trudy Billings – philanthropist and former information technology executive whose childhood dream was becoming a prima ballerina
- Jenny Costa Honeycutt, Esq. – of Costa Honeycutt, LLC and vice chair of the Charleston County Council, who is dedicating her performance to her parents Dr. Louie and Cindy Costa
- Dean Rommes – owner and president of SNAP Integrations, who is committed to philanthropy and community stewardship
- Tessa Spencer – 33-year media personality, two-time Emmy nominee and evening news anchor at ABC News 4
- Gil Tisdale – artist and designer who is considering the Oxygen Ball part of his comeback story following his recovery from a major car accident
“Investment in lung health is critical in South Carolina," said Kat Varn, Oxygen Ball event chair. "More than 650,000 people across the state suffer from lung disease, including lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. Our celebrity dancers, event sponsors, donors and attendees help fund lung health programs, life-saving lung cancer research and advocacy efforts in our communities. Together, we’re ensuring healthy lungs and clean air for all.”
