The Holy City Vintage Market (HCVM) makes its return on Sunday, June 6th from 11 am to 4 pm at The Royal American, complete with live vintage rock covers from DUMB Doctors (solo). The pop-up market hasn’t convened since canceling its March 2020 market due to the coronavirus. Next month’s event will include 30+ vendors, making it HCVM’s biggest market yet.
“I remember postponing it until May 2020, clueless at that time that this thing would take over our lives for at least another year,” said HCVM founder Kelly Rae Smith, also owner of Rhubarb Vintage.
While HCVM continued on during the pandemic with six virtual markets that raised funds for local groups, including the Lowcountry Action Committee, We Are Family, Fresh Future Farm, and Food Not Bombs, this June will be the first live, in-person event since March 1st, 2020.
The market continues to use its platform to raise awareness and money for community groups it cares about with the June 6th inclusion of the Lowcountry Action Committee, a local Black-led grassroots organization dedicated to Black liberation through service, political education, and collective action in the Lowcountry. In addition, Closet Case Thrift, the North Charleston thrift store operated by We Are Family that offers a gender-inclusive shopping experience, will be set up with secondhand finds.
Reflections African Jewelry is back with tarot card readings, while Henna by Emily offers face and body painting for kids and adults. Salt & Stem will pull up with a vintage truck full of fun flower arrangements, while My Bud Vase, who was featured on Time Square marquees on 4/20/21, will bring their latest line of beautiful bongs.
Hungry and thirsty shoppers can take advantage of The Royal American’s punch and lunch menu.
Vintage shops include Rhubarb Vintage, Ancien., Homesick Housewares, Enough Vintage, Grease Kelly Vintage, Embellished Premium Apparel, Open Road Vintage Co., and Major Vintage, to name but a few.
Masks should be worn when shopping to protect unvaccinated/not fully vaccinated vendors. The Royal American is located at 970 Morrison Drive.
