A Celebration of Music, Food, and Libations: High Water Festival Returns This Weekend

The highly anticipated High Water Festival, curated by the Holy City-based folk duo Shovels & Rope, returns to Riverfront Park in North Charleston this Saturday and Sunday. High Water Festival integrates music, food, and art, while also positively impacting the greater Charleston community, donating over $50,000 and 3,000 volunteer hours to the festival's non-profit partners, Charleston Waterkeeper, The Greenheart Project, and Water Mission.

In addition to Shovels & Rope, artists performing at the two-day event include Grammy award-winning Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit, Band of Horses, Brandi Carlile, Jeff Tweedy, and more.

SCHEDULE:

FRIDAY, APRIL 20th

6 pm: Low Tide Social
- Kickoff the High Water Festival weekend at Low Tide Social, an evening of supper and song presented by Pabst Blue Ribbon. This pre-festival event will feature live music from Charleston’s own Garage Cuban Band and Shrimp Records Family Band, who will be playing a tribute set to fallen hero Tom Petty with a rotating cast of surprise guest vocalists. In addition to the musical lineup, the event will feature a Lowcountry boil hosted by The Smoking Pot, fresh oysters courtesy of Seaborn Oyster Company, and libations by some of Charleston’s most celebrated bartenders, including Genevieve Mashburn of The Getaway, Andrew King of FIG, and Lane Becker of The Dewberry.

SATURDAY, APRIL 21st

11 am – 1:30 pm: Pass the Peas
- A curated brunch series to celebrate the best of Southern cuisine and culture. Local chefs will collaborate on their favorite dishes for a unique, family-style dining experience; attendees will enjoy locally crafted libations, artfully prepared and hand-selected food, as well as wines paired from around the world. Saturday’s chefs include Jacques Larson (Wild Olive & The Obstinate Daughter), Kevin Getzewich (One Broad), and Matt Connelly (EVO Pizzeria). Tickets ($150 plus fees) are available to current High Water Festival weekend ticket holders and to the general public, making it a great alternative to experience the sold-out festival.

Seaborn Oyster Co. Education Classes: New to the festival this year, Seaborn Oyster Co. is hosting four exclusive oyster education classes onsite during the weekend. Limited to 15 people, these intimate, one-hour classes will take place at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday . Aimed to introduce the basics of oysters and oyster-shucking, guests will shuck and taste a dozen oysters from Seaborn Oyster Co. This sold-out experience was available as an add-on for ticket holders.

The Refuge: A shady retreat that will feature locally inspired craft cocktails, a curated wine bar, local & regional eateries, handmade crafts, and more. Full details on participating artisans, food offerings, and more can be found here.

The Porch: A Charleston Craft Beer Experience featuring 6 craft brews from Lagunitas Brewing Company, including their IPA, Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale, Pils, Sumpin’ Easy Ale, Sucks DIPA, and Aunt Sally wild ale. More info here.
