34 West Theater will present their all-new disco comedy, I’m Still Standing, from June 16th to September 16th in downtown Charleston. Written by actors and co-founders Jeff Querin and Stephen Wayne, their funky 70's show offers a side-splitting soap opera with outrageous characters, scandalous plot twists, and belly-aching laughter that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
“We've woven 13 epic tunes into a romantic-comedy,” said Wayne. “It's our homage to Tootsie, 9 to 5, and Saturday Night Fever!”
34 West enters their 9th year of performances at 200 Meeting Street (next to FIG and Charleston Place). Wayne mentions that it took about a year to build a following before selling out regularly.
“On any given night, sixty percent of our audience is local while the other forty percent are from elsewhere,” he said.
Half the fun is enjoying a glass of Paso Robles wine or Coke Float from their bar. The owner/actors may even make you a drink before the show begins.
“Jeff and I learned early on the experience begins when you first walk through the door,” Wayne said. “Think of it like a cocktail party that includes one-of-a-kind production.”
34 West is known for producing original plays and musicals written by their actors and designers. A menu of champagne cocktails, wine, craft beers, sodas and savory snacks are available. Performances occur at 8 pm Thursday to Saturday, with select Tuesdays. For more information, visit 34west.org.
