The Charleston RiverDogs have scheduled their annual “Run Forrest Run” 5k for Saturday, May 21st. The race precedes the team's game that night against the Columbia Fireflies.
The 13th edition of the Forrest Gump-themed race will start at 4 pm outside of The Joe and concludes at home plate.
If you register for the race by May 14th, the cost is $30 per runner. Each runner will receive a race packet, t-shirt, and one ticket to that evening's RiverDogs game. Late registration is $35. Proceeds from the event benefit the Singleton Memorial Fund, which was created in memory of Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, one of the nine victims of the June 17, 2015 shooting at the Mother Emanuel AME Church. Her son Chris is a sophomore at Charleston Southern University and a member of the school’s baseball team. The fund will be used to meet Chris's educational expenses. Any remaining funds will be applied to the planned CSU baseball enrichment center.
Each registration includes a race packet, T-shirt, one ticket to that evening's RiverDogs game (6:05 pm first pitch), an awards ceremony, and a post-race party with dinner and beer garden.
Registration forms and further information are available online.
