The Charleston Battery have teamed up with the American Cancer Society for the Men Wear Pink campaign, a Breast Cancer Awareness initiative, the club announced Wednesday.
The goal of the Men Wear Pink campaign is to raise awareness and essential funds in support of breast cancer research, services and education around screenings and risk reduction.
A cornerstone of the Battery’s fundraising initiatives this season is the Courage Kit, a pink goalkeeper jersey that will be worn in matches and sold in the team shop, with proceeds from each shirt sold directly benefiting the Men Wear Pink campaign. This pink kit features an abstract pattern and a ginkgo leaf that symbolizes resilience and hope.
The Courage Kit will debut at the Battery’s August 24 home match and will be worn by the goalkeepers throughout the rest of the season. The kits are available for purchase online now and at the stadium on matchdays, while supplies last.
An additional player-worn warm-up jersey auction will join the Battery’s fundraising initiatives, benefiting the Men Wear Pink campaign. These pink-and-black jerseys will feature at the Battery’s Breast Cancer Awareness Night match on October 5. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the match to show their support for breast cancer patients and survivors.
Breast cancer survivors as well as their caregivers and families are invited to participate in a breast cancer survivor player tunnel at the October 5 match. This will take place before kickoff on the field and provide an opportunity for participants to welcome the players to the pitch. To participate in the breast cancer survivor player tunnel, sign up here.
The Battery will also unveil a special-edition pink scarf ahead of the October 5 match that fans will be able to purchase online and at the game. Proceeds from the scarf and Courage Kit will be donated to the Men Wear Pink campaign.
These fundraising efforts are crucial as one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. This year alone, nearly 300,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
Every day, the American Cancer Society is saving more lives from breast cancer than ever before by helping people reduce their risk of breast cancer or detect it early when it's easier to treat. They provide free information and services, fund groundbreaking research, and work to ensure access to mammograms for those who need them.
Fans can also show their support by donating directly to the Battery’s Men Wear Pink campaign here.
Tickets for the Breast Cancer Awareness Match on October 5 are available now via SeatGeek.com, the Battery’s exclusive digital ticketing provider.
