Personal finance website WalletHub today released a report on States With the Best & Worst Representation on Election Day, to identify which states’ voting populations most closely resemble their actual electorates. South Carolina was designated as being the 9th worst-represented.
To come up with the rankings, WalletHub compared the distribution of the 50 states’ voters to the distribution of their electorates by key demographic characteristics, including age, race and gender. They also analyzed how voters nationally reflect the U.S. electorate using those factors plus employment status, family income, educational attainment and marital status.
Voters’ Representation of South Carolina’s Electorate:
- Overall Representation: 86.53%
- Racial Representation: 72.52%
- Age Representation: 87.37%
- Gender Representation: 99.72%
