Press Release
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Ahead of President Biden's visit to West Columbia tomorrow, South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Christale Spain held a press call highlighting the economic progress South Carolina has made in the past few years thanks to President Biden's economic agenda – and no thanks to South Carolina Republicans who have tried to block critical investments and jobs for the state at every turn.
Read highlights from the Chair's remarks below:
- “Ahead of President Biden's visit to South Carolina tomorrow, I want to take a few minutes to talk about what his Bidenomics agenda has done for our state – in large part no thanks to Republicans like Nancy Mace, Joe Wilson, Jeff Duncan, William Timmons, Ralph Norman, Russell Fry, and Senators Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott – all of whom have voted against the progress President Biden has delivered.”
- “President Biden passed the American Rescue Plan – no thanks to a single Republican vote – and sent funding across the country to reopen our schools, save over 1,000 South Carolina bars and restaurants, and deliver record job creation…Next, he worked across the aisle and signed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to repair crumbling roads and bridges, deliver clean water to our underrepresented communities, and expand access to affordable internet… And most recently, President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act to help lower costs for families and create more good paying jobs.”
- “Joe Wilson, who represents the district the President will be visiting, voted against all of these economic pieces, deciding to play politics instead of delivering for his constituents just like every other South Carolina House republican. And Wilson isn't alone – Every single South Carolina Republican in Congress voted against this legislation – yet they're all too happy to take credit for its popular benefits.”
- “As we look ahead to this next election, it could not be more important that we keep President Biden's strong and steady leadership in the White House. Joe Biden is the only candidate in the 2024 race with the track record of building bipartisan coalitions and working across the aisle to get things done for South Carolina. If you want to see that contrast in action, look no further than the South Carolina Republicans running for president. Tim Scott and Nikki Haley are more focused on pushing culture wars, advocating for banning abortion nationwide and gutting Social Security and Medicare, than they are on delivering for South Carolina.”
