The Citadel’s Department of Political Science, ahead of the general election on Nov. 5, announced results from the second The Citadel Poll on Thursday, Oct. 31, after surveying 1,241 South Carolina voters and 1,218 Georgia voters between Oct. 17 and Oct. 25 through live telephone interviews or text message. For SC, the margin of sampling error is 3.6% and margin of error is 2.8%; for GA the margin of sampling error is 3.8% and margin of error is 2.8%.
The Citadel Poll’s Southern Battleground Survey found voters in SC and GA expect a close election and that they feel confident the election results will be accurate.
Notable results include:
- In SC, former President Donald Trump leads Vice President Kamala Harris by 12% (54 for Trump, 42 for Harris) among likely voters.
- In GA, former President Donald Trump leads Vice President Kamala Harris by 2% (49 for Trump, 47 for Harris) among likely voters
- In both states, most of the likely voters who favor Harris for president is because “Trump should not be in power”; most of the likely voters in SC who favor Trump say it is because “Trump has a track record of success” and most in GA say it is because “Trump is focused on the most important policies.”
- When asked, regardless of whom they plan to vote for, most SC voters trusted Trump over Harris on issues including “Keeping our communities safe,” “Protect American interests abroad,” “Address rising costs of living,” “Immigration & border security,” and “Unite the country”; in GA, voters trusted Trump over Harris on all issues above except “Unite the country.”
- Most likely voters in SC and GA are expected to vote early and in-person.
