Democratic nominee for Governor Joe Cunningham on Friday released the following statement in response to Henry McMaster's new ad, which includes remarks from a press conference that Cunningham, McMaster, and other state leaders held upon the House passage of Cunningham's offshore drilling ban bill:
“I want to thank the governor for reminding voters of my long record of bipartisan work and his support for my efforts in Congress. I was proud to be ranked one of the most independent and effective members of Congress because of my willingness and ability to work across the aisle to get big things done.
Public service means getting things done without caring who gets the credit. In 2019, I passed a bipartisan bill protecting South Carolina's coastline from dangerous oil drilling and was proud to stand with elected officials, including Governor McMaster, to celebrate this victory for our state.
People are ready for our elected leaders to forget about politics and work together to provide solutions. That's the kind of leader I've always been and it's exactly the kind of governor I will be.”
