Local 846 and Local 848 of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental, and Reinforcing Iron Workers Union endorsed Mac Deford, Democratic Candidate for SC Congressional District 1.
The International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental, and Reinforcing Iron Workers Union, the parent organization of Ironworkers 846 and 848, has a current membership of 140,000 with 15,000 apprentices. Members of this union have worked on nearly every major construction project—the Golden Gate Bridge, the Sears Tower, the World Trade Center, and the World Trade Center recovery effort, to name a few.
“Mac Deford has the lived experience and understanding of working people's issues to ensure that Congressional District 1 brings opportunities for our tradesmen and women and their families," said Sebastian Feculak, State/Local Political Coordinator and Government Relations for the International Association of Iron Workers - Mid-Atlantic. "The Ironworkers can count on him to ensure our members and constituents have family-sustaining and safe jobs.”
In response to the endorsements, Deford said, “My maternal grandfather was a bridge welder, so these endorsements hit home for me. The Ironworkers Union trains the workforce that builds our infrastructure in South Carolina, and they create life-long career opportunities for tradespeople and young people. The Ironworkers have my back, and I will have theirs as a member of Congress, especially as we work to upgrade our infrastructure in the Lowcountry.”
