Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg and other city leaders invite the community to join them at the city of Charleston's inaugural Operation Neighborhood event being held in conjunction with the Forest Neighborhood Coalition and Palmilla Apartments. The event will take place at 9 am on Saturday, March 5th. The staging area for the event will be located at the end of Falkirk Drive.
Each quarter, a city neighborhood will be chosen, based on need and request, to serve as the venue for an Operation Neighborhood event.
For the inaugural event, roughly 50 city employees and community members have volunteered their time to come together to complete maintenance and beautification tasks, based on the neighborhood's unique needs. These may include (but are not limited to):
- Litter cleanup
- Drain cleaning
- Graffiti removal
- Lamp post maintenance
- Tree planting
- Street and sidewalk repair
- Street sweeping
- Dissemination of information regarding city services
- Lighting improvements
- Outreach regarding code enforcement
- Right-of-way landscape maintenance
- Engagement with public safety officers
