Last Thursday evening, September 19th, the Charleston County Democratic Party’s Executive Committee voted to recommend candidates in this year’s four elections for Charleston County Consolidated School Board. The party made the following recommendations:
- District 2 (portions of East Cooper): Carolina Jewett
- District 4 (portions of North Charleston & Downtown Charleston): Craig Logan
- District 6 (portions of West Ashley): Daron Lee Calhoun
- District 8 (Edisto Island, Hollywood, Johns Island, Ravenel, Wadmalaw, & portions of James Island): Darlene Dunmeyer-Roberson
“We are confident these candidates will prioritize quality education for our children and stay focused on improving our public schools," said Charleston County Democratic Party Chairman Sam Skardon. “This slate offers a stark contrast from the censorship, chaos, and division created by the board’s current ultra-conservative Moms For Liberty majority.”
Although School Board races are non-partisan, it is within the local Democratic Party’s rules to make recommendations in such races through a committee process, then an executive committee vote. According to the party, that process was followed, and each candidate recommendation was adopted without objection at any stage of the process.
