Law enforcement veteran Charles Frederick today announced his candidacy for Sheriff of Dorchester County. Frederick will seek the Democratic nomination to compete in the November general election.
Frederick has over 25 years of law enforcement experience in South Carolina. He honed his expertise as a member of the elite S.W.A.T. team and the drug task force, eventually rising to the rank of corporal.
During his time at the South Carolina Highway Patrol, he established and oversaw the traffic division in the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Department. His efforts led to his appointment as Captain—a position he held until 2021.
Frederick is also a United States Marine Veteran and business owner.
In making his announcement, Frederick stressed the need for the Sheriff’s office to modernize, adjust to the county’s growing population, and focus more on public safety.
“Deal cutting politicians or ideologues aren’t going to keep our families safe," he said. "They aren’t going to modernize the office to prepare us for even more population growth. Dorchester County deserves a professional Sheriff who sets aside tired politics of the past and focuses on the job at hand."
Frederick promised to run a vibrant campaign and speak personally with as many voters as possible.
“I have noticed that some candidates for Sheriff rarely talk with the voters anymore and instead hide behind their political endorsements," he said. "My plan is to take my case directly to the voters. I want them to know about my experience and vision and I want to know all about them and their families. Thankfully the politicians and their political cronies will not decide this election - the families of Dorchester County will."
Frederick is a native of Summerville and a graduate of Summerville High School and the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. He is married and has two children.
