AFFA Action, South Carolina’s leading LGBTQ+ political advocacy organization, today announced the release of the inaugural Equality Tracker SC Legislative Scorecard. This groundbreaking tool provides the public with a comprehensive look at how state legislators have voted on critical issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community in South Carolina.
The AFFA Action Equality Tracker SC Legislative Scorecard evaluates elected officials based on their support for policies that promote equality and fairness for LGBTQ+ individuals. The scorecard is designed to increase transparency and equip voters with the information they need to make informed decisions at the ballot box, empowering constituents to hold lawmakers accountable for their actions and advocate for meaningful change.
“This scorecard is an essential tool for anyone who values equality in South Carolina,” said Chase Glenn, Executive Director of AFFA Action. “As we witness increasing attacks on LGBTQ+ rights across the country, it’s more important than ever to know where our state legislators stand on the issues that impact our community. The Equality Tracker equips voters with the knowledge they need to hold their elected officials accountable and demand legislative action that promotes inclusion, safety, and justice for all.”
The scorecard aggregated detailed information on key votes, bill sponsorship, and legislative actions related to LGBTQ+ equality to grade each lawmaker. It covers a wide range of issues including:
- Anti-discrimination protections
- Access to healthcare for LGBTQ+ individuals
- School censorship
- Hate crimes and more
Visitors to the AFFA Action website can access the scorecard at www.affa-action.org/scorecard. The tool allows users to search for their state legislators, view their scores, and assess their overall support for LGBTQ+ equality.
The community is invited to attend a virtual launch event for the scorecard on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 6:00 PM. Register here to attend.
