The Wonderer, a private club offering “luxury social, work, and wellness-based amenities to its members,” began construction today. The new 50,000-square-foot facility, which will be located on the Upper Peninsula at 1705 Meeting Street, will be completed in two phases.
Phase one is scheduled to finish in the fall and will lead to the opening of “The Garden,” the club’s event space, and the debut of some wellness programs. Phase two, which will include the club's full-service restaurant, wellness cafe, fitness program, co-working space, and pool, will be completed in the spring or summer of 2019.
“Our core mission is to help our members achieve a balanced lifestyle through a peaceful one-stop location,” found partner Beau Burns said. “A bi-product will be providing a place for people to connect, share experiences, and build a stronger sense of community…From the arts to charitable giving to networking, fitness and relaxation…Though the idea of private clubs isn't new, à la SoHo House, The Curtain, The Wing and others, this concept hasn't taken off in Charleston yet.”
Founding membership invitations have begun to be sent out. According to a representative, all members of The Wonderer “will have year-round access to the Club, as well as all cultural programming and associated amenities, including a pool, multiple work spaces, wellness classes, spa services, a rooftop bar, onsite eateries and special programs to encourage broadening minds through art and music, to guest lectures and networking. The Wonderer will also host monthly mixers for its members where they can unwind in a serene environment away from the crowded streets of Charleston. Members will receive priority and discounted rates for hosting events at The Wonderer event space ‘The Garden’.”
The club and event space will be one of the first in Charleston to operate in a sustainable and carbon neutral manner via initiatives like solar paneling, and rainwater recycling for drip irrigation throughout the grounds. In addition, members will have an opportunity to participate in a variety of corporate charitable giving initiatives.
