On Friday, March 1st, Trident United Way will be hosting the 7th Annual Read Across America Day. Volunteers will visit classrooms at local elementary schools to read a book (or two) to students in local elementary schools.
Volunteers can be as creative as they like using fun props, costumes, backdrops and more! Either way, your reading will inspire a future generation of readers.
Studies show that early reading with an adult can greatly improve crucial literacy skills.
- From birth to age five, 90% of a child’s brain development occurs.
- More than half of South Carolina 5th graders test below standards in English Language Arts.
Children who are read to at least three times per week by an adult are almost twice as likely to score in the top 25% in reading compared to children who are read to less than 3 times a week.
Trident United Way believes every child has equal value and equal promise. Together, we can accomplish positive changes in education for every child in the Tri-County area.
Volunteers can sign up to read this Friday at any of the following schools:
