Trident United Way's African American Leadership Council's (AALC) fifth-annual book drive and giveaway went straight to the public this week with successful events in Hollywood and Ravenel. A school bus full of books was a welcome sight for kids and parents.
With the COVID-19 pandemic and unrest across the country, the Trident United Way AALC felt this event was even more meaningful to serve as a positive way for young people to know there are community members who care about their futures.
AALC members donated 650 books for kindergarten to third graders at E.B. Ellington Elementary School in Ravenel. Parents and kids picked up the books today during two sessions in Hollywood and Ravenel.
AALC members and parents say with all the hurt that is happening our world these days, a book is a great way for a child to focus on learning and expanding their horizons.
Books were donated by volunteers, South State Bank, The Charleston SC Chapter of the Links, and Georgia Mims.
Trident United Way has several opportunities for community members to give back, including the AALC, Young Philanthropists Society, and Women United. Click here to learn about all of the ways you can serve through Trident United Way.
