Daytime work will begin on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, on a pair of River Road improvements between Main and Maybank Roads that are being completed as part of the Charleston County Transportation Committee’s 2023 Resurfacing Plan. The planned improvements include 10 miles of edge line rumble strips and 10 miles of enhanced reflective pavement markings.
Crews will install Sinusoidal Rumble Strips, which feature a wave pattern designed to lessen external noise and minimize disruption to surrounding residents, while still effectively alerting drivers to unintended lane departures. Following the rumble strip installation, crews will place new reflective pavement markings that are proven to be more visible to drivers in nighttime and wet conditions.
Work is scheduled to take place from 9 am to 3 pm and is expected be completed by Friday, May 17, weather permitting.
Details:
- Lane closures will be used intermittently, and crews will be on-site to safely direct traffic through the work area.
- As always, drivers should use caution when traveling through the project area.
