The Beach Company is pleased to announce its downtown Charleston community, The Jasper, has been recognized with a prestigious award from the National Association of Landscape Professionals. Pleasant Places, Inc., the landscape partner for The Jasper, has earned a Gold Award in the “Commercial Landscape Contracting” category in the 2024 Awards of Excellence.
“This award is a true testament to Pleasant Places’ commitment to superior craftmanship and attention to detail in creating outdoor spaces that elevate the overall experience for both residents and office tenants,” says Kristine Schmitz, director of property management at The Beach Company. “Their execution of the landscape design not only preserved the character of Charleston, but also thoughtfully addressed environmental challenges while maintaining its aesthetic beauty.”
The landscape at The Jasper, a 12-story mixed-use building located in Charleston’s historic district, plays a significant role in the community’s appeal. Designed by DesignWorks and maintained by Pleasant Places, Inc., the site features a traditional English garden around the central fountain and palm trees from the original historic Sergeant Jasper building, which were carefully moved and replanted post-construction. Elements of Charleston’s charm are woven into the design, incorporating vertical brick columns, crushed native landscape materials and brushed metal. Additionally, all plants are saltwater-tolerant, and the site’s stormwater system was designed to ensure the land and hardscape work seamlessly together, taking flood considerations into account.
Inside, The Jasper offers 219 rental residences in addition to AAA-office space and first-floor retail with an enclosed parking garage. Since opening in 2021, The Jasper has aimed to provide residents with a truly unique living experience. The community offers a range of upscale amenities, including a rooftop pool, commercial fitness center with free-weight circuit facility, yoga and outdoor fitness areas on the Star Deck, locker rooms with showers and saunas, private wine lockers and a demonstration kitchen with catering prep space for private events.
