Mews + Brews Cat Cafe, which opened on Central Avenue in Summerville earlier this year, has reached 50 adoptions in less than two months of being open for business. When the cafe reached they milestone, they had been open for a total of 49 days, meaning they averaged at least one adoption per day. Owner Cait Cox says they've had up to 3 adoptions in a single day.
“The response has been overwhelmingly positive,” Cox said. “Our guests and cats are loving the concept, so everybody's happy. These cats deserve to find their fur-ever homes and we're making sure that happens. We take the time to vet potential adopters and try to match each one with the best cat for them. It's amazing to see how successful we've been in just the short amount of time we've been open.”
Mews + Brews partners with local shelter Dorchester Paws, which handles the intake process for new cats, and also ensures they are spayed/neutered, up to date on their vaccinations, and microchipped. The shelter staff assesses each cat's personality and if they are comfortable around other cats and people, they move into the cat cafe to be adopted. The cats live at the cafe 24/7, and receive routine care from both the cafe and shelter staff.
The cafe serves coffee from Coastal Coffee Roasters, tea, hot chocolate, beer, and wine, as well as pastries from Saffron Bakery. They also host a variety of special events which can be found on the monthly calendar on the Mews + Brews website.
