During the month of February, South Carolina ETV and Public Radio (SCETV) recognizes Black History Month with special programming that highlights the Black American experience.
SCETV shares the rich culture and history of Black Americans throughout the year with special programming during Black History Month, including the premiere of the Henry Louis Gates, Jr. two-part special Gospel.
UPCOMING PROGRAMS ON SCETV
- Gospel Live! Presented by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. airs Feb. 9 at 9 p.m. The event, co-hosted by Gates and Erica Campbell, and featuring John Legend, is a companion program to the four-hour PBS documentary series Gospel. It is a one-of-a-kind musical celebration that honors the legacy and influence of Gospel music in America.
- Gospel is a two-night premiere event from executive producer, writer and host Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. The program examines the origin of Black gospel music, which blended sacred spirituals with the blues tradition. This special airs Feb. 12 and Feb. 13 at 9 p.m.
- Carolina Stories: Charlie’s Place airs Feb. 15 at 8 p.m. and tells the story of an African American nightclub in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina that was a significant stop on the Chitlin’ Circuit in the segregated South.
- Pullman and the Railroad Rebellion: American Stories airs Feb. 15 at 10 p.m. and recounts the bloody rebellion that followed George Pullman's establishment of a company town for his formerly enslaved employees on Chicago's South Side, giving him complete autonomy over every aspect of their lives.
- Shuttlesworth airs Feb. 22 at 10 p.m. and centers around Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth and his work which ended legal segregation, leading directly to the Civil and Voting Rights Acts. Shuttlesworth believed he was saved by God to lead a movement when the KKK planted a bomb underneath his bed and he emerged unharmed.
