South Carolina ETV and Public Radio (SCETV) today announced that SC Public Radio reporter Victoria Hansen (right) has been nominated for Radio Reporter of the Year by the South Carolina Broadcasters Association (SCBA). Winners of the annual State Television and Radio (STAR) Awards will be announced on August 13th at the Hilton Columbia Center.
The SCBA serves as the voice for South Carolina radio and television stations by providing educational resources for members, communicating essential information to the public and lobbying for legislation that supports broadcasters' commitment to serving their communities.
Each year, the SCBA honors Palmetto State broadcasters at the STAR Awards. The STAR Awards recognize the exceptional accomplishments of South Carolina stations and their broadcast professionals. SC Public Radio reporter Victoria Hansen is nominated for Radio Reporter of the Year. Victoria Hansen is SC Public Radio's Lowcountry connection, covering the Charleston community, a city she knows well. Hansen grew up in newspaper newsrooms and has worked as a broadcast journalist for more than 20 years. Her first reporting job brought her to Charleston where she covered local and national stories like the Susan Smith murder trial and the arrival of the Citadel's first female cadet.
In addition to this nomination for Radio Reporter of the Year from the SCBA, Hansen recently received second place recognition in the Special Feature Category: COVID-2021 at the Public Media Journalist Association (PMJA) 2022 Annual Conference in Seattle, WA. Her intimate portrait of a hospital COVID unit from a photojournalist-turned-nurse received one of the 221 awards presented to 101 organizations, recognizing the best work in public media journalism from across the country.
