The South Carolina State Conference of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) proudly announces its 84th Annual Convention, set to take place from October 10th to October 13th, 2024, at the North Charleston Marriott. This year’s convention will embrace the theme "All In," celebrating over eight decades of unwavering commitment to civil rights, equality, and justice in the Palmetto State.
The convention will feature a wide range of engaging events and activities aimed at empowering communities, celebrating achievements, and building momentum for the continued fight for civil rights. Highlights of the convention include:
- Gospel Fest – A celebration of faith through music and spirituality.
- Membership and Faith Awards Luncheon – Honoring members and faith-based leaders who have made significant contributions to civil rights.
- Youth and College Division Events – Engaging South Carolina’s youth and young leaders in the NAACP’s mission and providing a platform for activism and education.
- Freedom Awards Banquet – The pinnacle event of the convention, featuring keynote speaker Penny Brown Reynolds, Ph.D., J.D., Deputy Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights. This annual celebration honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to advancing civil rights.
This year’s convention will also center on the importance of public education, recognizing it as a cornerstone of civil rights and a key to ensuring equal opportunities for all. The SC NAACP remains committed to advocating for equitable access to quality education for every child.
Throughout the convention, attendees will have access to workshops presented by notable organizations such as the American Red Cross and Cover SC, as well as youth activities with the International African American Museum. These activities will cover critical topics ranging from health and safety to the importance of healthcare access and the preservation of African American history and culture.
