Pet Helpers on Tuesday announced a special community event designed to bring a little extra cheer to pet-loving families in the Lowcountry this holiday season. On Saturday, December 21st, from 8 am to 11 am, Pet Helpers will distribute a truckload of FREE pet food, thanks to the generosity of Chewy and The Humane Society of the United States.
“With the rising cost of living, including pet care, we know many families are feeling the pinch,” said Melissa Susko, Executive Director of Pet Helpers. “Any relief we can provide to make pet ownership more manageable is a win. We’re so grateful to Chewy and The Humane Society of the United States for helping us play Santa and spread a little joy to the community.”
The goal of the event is to ensure pets remain happy and healthy this holiday season while alleviating financial stress for their owners.
How It Works:
- Attendees must present a valid photo ID and share the number of pets in their care
- Pet Helpers staff and volunteers will gather the appropriate food and assist in loading it into vehicles
Important Details:
- Supplies are available per household and are limited to publicly owned pets
- Rescues and shelters are ineligible to participate (as per partner agreements)
- Items are not for resale
Additional Support:
For pet owners unable to attend, Pet Helpers encourages them to email office@pethelpers.org to learn more about their Community Food Bank Program, which provides ongoing support for families in need. Pet Helpers urges the community to spread the word about this event to ensure that as many families as possible can benefit.
“This is about coming together as a community to care for our pets,” added Susko. “We’re proud to be able to offer this opportunity and hope it makes the holidays brighter for both pets and their people.”
