Pet Helpers this week announced the launch of the Microchip Art Project, inviting local artists to submit vibrant, pet-themed designs to be digitized into vinyl wraps for microchip scanning stations around town. This community-driven initiative aims to reduce the number of lost pets in the Lowcountry.
The selected artists' designs will be transformed into high-quality vinyl wraps, which will be applied to upcycled newspaper stands that serve as microchip scanning stations. These stations will provide easy access for residents to scan lost pets for microchips, helping reunite them with their families.
"We're thrilled to bring together local artists and the community in a creative project that directly impacts the lives of animals," said Melissa Susko, Executive Director of Pet Helpers. "The microchip stations will serve as both functional tools and pieces of art, celebrating the spirit of the Lowcountry and the love we share for our pets. We can't wait to see how our talented artists bring these stations to life through their designs!"
Design submissions are due by December 15, 2024. Artists can submit their designs by submitting photos of their concepts along with a completed application. Detailed application guidelines are available on our website, pethelpers.org.
Here's what Pet Helpers say they are looking for:
Colorful, pet-inspired designs that reflect the love and connection between animals and their families. Community-centered artwork that draws attention and inspires passersby to engage with the stations. Artists' donation of time and design work to create digital artwork for the vinyl wraps.
Selected artists will be featured on the Pet Helpers website and social media, gaining recognition for their contribution to this important initiative. Join us in creating art that saves lives, fosters community, and showcases the love we have for the animals of the Lowcountry!
