The first trailer for Megan Leavey, a movie based on the true story of a U.S. Marine and her military combat dog, has been released online. A portion of the biopic was filmed in Charleston.
Kate Mara (House of Cards, Fantastic Four) plays Leavey, a marine who served as a K9 handler in Iraq. Her military working dog Rex was trained to detect bombs and completed over 100 missions with Leavey in both Fallujah and Ramadi.
The movie also stars Edie Falco, Ramon Rodriguez, Bradley Whitford, and Common. Gabriela Cowperthwaite (Blackfish) directed from a screenplay by Pamela Gray, Annie Mumolo, Tim Lovestedt.
The production filmed in Charleston during the fall of 2015. Numerous locals were hired as extras, so you may see some familiar faces in the movie.
Megan Leavey hits theaters on June 9th.
