Make-A-Wish® South Carolina is excited to announce the appointment of four distinguished individuals to its Board of Directors, effective September 1, 2024. The new board members—Dr. Caitlin Townsend, Hart Peary, Chris Lovorn, and the returning Carmen Scott—bring a wealth of experience, passion, and dedication to the organization. Their diverse backgrounds and commitment to Make-A-Wish's mission will play a crucial role in continuing to grant life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses across South Carolina.
Dr. Caitlin Townsend of Anderson, South Carolina, joins the board with extensive expertise in health promotion, community engagement, and leadership. Dr. Townsend holds a PhD in Population Health and is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES). In her professional role at AssuredPartners, she focuses on enhancing customer engagement with wellness programs and emphasizing risk management strategies. Dr. Townsend's involvement with Make-A-Wish began through her nomination to the W.I.S.H. (Women Inspiring Strength & Hope) Society, where she has been instrumental in raising awareness and funds to grant wishes for children facing critical illnesses. She is also preparing for the Make-A-Wish South Carolina Trailblaze Challenge® this October, reflecting her commitment to the organization.
Hart Peary, a Charleston, South Carolina resident, brings a deeply personal connection to Make-A-Wish. After her firstborn son, Charlie, had his wish granted just two weeks before he passed away at the age of nine, Hart has passionately supported the organization's mission. Hart has raised over $80,000 to help grant wishes for children in South Carolina and was honored as a W.I.S.H. Society honoree in 2024. Her dedication to helping other wish families and ensuring that funds raised in South Carolina benefit local children makes her a valuable addition to the board.
Chris Lovorn from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, offers decades of leadership experience in sales and management. After retiring from Quad Graphics as Vice President of Sales, Chris has remained active in his community. His connection to Make-A-Wish began in 2020 when he became involved in an annual golf event hosted by the Myrtlewood Senior Men's Golf Association, which supports the organization. Chris is eager to leverage his professional experience to expand Make-A-Wish’s impact in the Myrtle Beach and Grand Strand areas by building sustainable relationships with local businesses.
Carmen Scott of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, returns to the Board of Directors for her third term, having previously served with distinction for six years. A seasoned attorney at Motley Rice and a dedicated advocate for children, Carmen has made significant contributions to Make-A-Wish South Carolina, particularly through her leadership on the Development Committee. Her involvement with the W.I.S.H. Society and as a wish-granting volunteer highlights her deep personal commitment to the organization’s mission.
"We are thrilled to welcome these four remarkable individuals to our Board of Directors," said Misty Farmer, CEO of Make-A-Wish South Carolina. "Each brings unique skills, experiences, and a deep passion for our mission. Their collective contributions will undoubtedly strengthen our efforts to grant every eligible child’s wish in South Carolina."
