On October 5, 2019, M.A.D. USA, Inc. will kick off Domestic Violence Awareness Month with the 8th Annual Detra Rainey: Stop the Violence “Save a Life” Domestic Violence Awareness Event. The event will take place at the Centre Pointe Sam’s Club, near the Tanger Outlets, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This family-friendly event offers a day of education and activities, all while focusing on raising awareness about domestic violence, safe places of refuge, and counseling services for those affected. Through outreach and advocacy, M.A.D. USA aims to engage people of all ages across South Carolina and beyond, providing critical education to help recognize abuse and break the cycle of violence. Their mission is to prevent domestic violence from occurring in the future.
The Detra Rainey event has been held annually for eight years in remembrance of the founder’s family members, who were victims of a tragic domestic violence incident in 2006. On September 30, 2006, Christan Rainey’s mother, Detra Rainey, and his four siblings—William (16), Hakiem (13), Malachi (6), and Samenia (6)—were murdered during a domestic dispute. Christan’s story has since become a powerful testament to the devastating impact of domestic violence on families and communities.
Through this event, M.A.D. USA honors Christan’s family, not with sorrow, but by turning their story into a source of inspiration and a call to action. The goal of the event is simple yet crucial: to save lives by raising awareness and providing resources for those who need them.
