Lowcountry AIDS Services (LAS) and the Roper St. Francis Ryan White Wellness Center (RWWC) are teaming up to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS in the Charleston community. The two organizations will present the Lowcountry Red Ribbon 5K Run & Walk on Saturday, September 10th at Wannamaker County Park in North Charleston.
The race begins at 9:15 am and ends with an after-party featuring food trucks, music, games, and vendors. Money from the event will be split by both organizations in order to help the more than 2,500 people living with HIV and AIDS here in the tri-county area. The help is certainly needed as South Carolina ranks 13th in the nation for its high prevalence of AIDS cases, and the Charleston/North Charleston area ranks 19th among national metropolitan areas.
The event includes a 1-mile option for walkers. Individual 5K and 1-mile registrations are $30 through September 8th. You can register on the morning of the event for $35. Team discounts and sponsorships opportunities are available.
