An unique temporary clothing store will be open for three days at 275 King Street beginning on Thursday, October 24th. According to an organizer, the Ibu Pop-Up Shop will include “luxurious garments handmade by women artisans from around the world.” Madagascar, Laos, India, Mexico, Guatemala, Bangladesh, Nagaland, Zimbabwe, Peru, and the United States will all be represented at the shop.
The term “ibu” comes from the islands of Indonesia and means a woman of respect. Organizers say wearing the clothing means “belonging to a global web of women, whose hands, eyes, souls, and imagination are recreating the world.”
The Ibu Pop-Up Shop’s Hours:
- Thursday, Oct. 24: 6 pm – 9 pm
- Friday, Oct. 25: 10 am – 6 pm
- Saturday, Oct. 26: 10 – 6 pm
Some of the proceeds from the opening will benefit the Center for Women.
