The Green Heart Project, a local nonprofit that provides Farm to School education, invites the community to join its 11th Annual Harvest Dinner on Thursday, May 13th at the new ½ acre Urban Farm at Enston Home (900 King Street).
The 2021 Harvest Dinner will be different than in years past. In order to practice COVID-19 safety, guests will be invited to either drive through and pick up their dinner, or to mask up and walk through the Urban Farm to experience kid-friendly activities and entertainment, shop at the on-site farmer's market stand, and pick up a BBQ dinner to-go.
The Harvest Dinner is a celebration of healthy food, education, and community, and is an opportunity to celebrate all of the hard work that Green Heart students put into their gardens during the school year. As usual, the dinner will feature a BBQ plate by Jamie Westendorff, garden-fresh sides, and dessert prepared by local chefs from The Harbinger Cafe and CCSD schools. This year's activities and entertainment feature partners who will host kids' activities such as Slow Food Charleston, The Goatery, CofC Master of Environmental Studies Program, live music by 1øø Fold, bubbles by Good Clean Fun, and a live cooking demo by Chef Graham Calabria.
“We are proud to celebrate our 11th year of growing food and growing minds with Charleston students, and to share our new Downtown Urban Farm space with our wonderful Green Heart community,” said Green Heart Project Executive Director, Jesse Blom.
Tickets to the event are $20 for adults, $10 for students, free for children under 2, and must be purchased in advance. All proceeds benefit The Green Heart Project’s Farm to School programs. The ticket link and more information can be found on Green Heart's website at www.greenheartsc.org.
